IIMS: A Major New National Initiative

IMTI has accepted a leadership role in defining the vision for a major new national initiative called Intelligent, Integrated Manufacturing Systems  (IIMS).

The IIMS initiative fosters a technology-rich environment that enables breakthrough and disruptive changes to revitalize U.S. manufacturing, enable U.S. competitiveness in a global marketplace, and ensure long-term U.S. economic success through the 21st century. The philosophy of IIMS is that:

  • Innovation is a key to economic success.
  • American ingenuity, enabled by a new and rich technological tool set, drives innovation.
  • Innovation creates wealth and great jobs.
  • Therefore, technology is the engine of economic growth, and American ingenuity fuels that engine.

New AKDS's Released

IMTI partner company, InRAD, LLC, has developed a powerful information retrieval product called the Automated Knowledge Discovery System (AKDS). As part of the Next Generation Manufacturing Technology Initiative (NGMTI), IMTI has partnered with InRAD to develop four new AKDS products. The Orthotics and Prosthetics AKDS, RF Modules AKDS, Power Sources AKDS, and the Fuel Cells have been released to their user communities.

The IMTI AKDS, available to all IMTI member organizations, is being revised and updated. A Large-Scale Composites AKDS and an Integrated, Intelligent Manufacturing Systems AKDS are currently under development.

US Model Based Enterprise Workshop

IMTI to Support Strategic Planning Efforts for the Next Generation of Defense Capabilities

IMTI has entered into an agreement with the DoD's Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the Joint Defense Manufacturing Technology Panel (JDMTP) to provide assistance in their joint strategic investment planning activities. These planning activities address technologies that support the next generation of defense capabilities. All of these future capabilities require the insertion of new technology that currently exists somewhere between the level of "bright idea" and "fairly mature but not yet ready to use." It is vitally important that these technologies mature as quickly as possible to provide the desired military advantage. It is equally important that they be scheduled for insertion into a weapon system only when sufficiently mature to avoid delays and cost overruns.
